Session Configuration

When you create a new session, the only thing you are required to set is the name. There are other settings available to you which we set with some default values but you are welcome to change. You can get to these when you create a new session by clicking on "More settings".

Email Transcripts

Switch: on or off (default: on).

When this is turned on guests will be given the opportunity to enter their email address. When the session is finished they will be sent a copy of the transcription and translation in the language they chose.

If a guest hasn’t confirmed their address with your church or organisation before, we first email them a link to confirm it, and the transcript is sent once they have. After that, transcripts from your church or organisation are sent without asking again, for as long as we keep their address.

Turn "Email transcripts" off for a service or event held for children under 13, so that no child is asked for an email address. If we learn that a session is for children under 13, we turn it off for that session and delete any addresses given through it.

Emailing transcripts is a plan feature. If your plan doesn’t include it, the switch is not shown, and a line in its place says so.

Auto Pause Translation

Switch: on or off (default: on).
Minutes: 1 to 60 (default: 2).

Auto pause will automatically pause the translation when there are no guests connected for the configured number of minutes. It will then automatically resume translation as soon as someone connects. While the translation is paused it won't use any of your translation minutes.

The configured number of minutes should not be set too low as it can affect guests who have a poor connection. If they keep leaving and joining it won't translate while they are temporarily disconnected.

A guest whose phone locks its screen can drop off the session, which counts as leaving, so ask guests to keep the screen on. Parlabase asks their phones to stay awake while they read, but a browser may refuse.

Auto End Session

Switch: on or off (default: off).
Minutes: 1 to 240 (30 when you first turn it on).

Auto end will automatically end the session if it stays paused with nobody listening for the configured number of minutes, counted from the moment it paused itself. To use the session again, press "Go live"; its code and QR code stay the same.

Auto end counts from the automatic pause, so it needs "Auto pause translation" to be on. While that is off, this switch can’t be turned on. A session you pause yourself is not ended this way; ending it is up to you.

Two Kinds of Pause

Neither kind of pause uses your translation minutes, but you control them differently.

  • A pause you make yourself. Press "Pause" during a song or a break, and "Resume" when you are ready to carry on. The status shows "Paused".
  • An automatic pause. The status shows "Paused automatically" and there is no "Resume" button: the session carries on by itself once the reason it paused has gone. You can still press "End".

Pausing in Run a session says why a session pauses itself, and more about both kinds.

Changing Settings Later

You can change a session’s settings at any time after you create it:

  • from the dashboard, with the settings button on the session’s row;
  • from the session screen, with the settings button at the top: under "Session settings", press "Change".

All three settings are fixed when you go live. A change you make during a broadcast applies from the next time you go live.
